MLETR.com is part of the TRADE GATEWAYS Programme, which simplifies Cross Border Trade By Connecting Trade Gateways thatfFeature Digital Trade, And providing services Through Major Partners. The TRADE GATEWAYS Programme also provides access To A Local Logistics Provider Network Across The Regional Trade Gateways
The Trade Gateways Network is operated by Local Merchant Services, (LMS) in co-operation with significant partners. LMS have been providing Digital Trade Services since 2017. Services are centrally provided to Trade Gateways in the Network in a partnership with IBM
International Trade provides many challenges. Because there are over 300 Digital Trade Gateways across the globe in the TRADE GATEWAYS network, including Trade Gateways for over 100 Major Ports Globally, the TRADE GATEWAYS Programme provides the ability to remove many of the challenges in a facilitated manner from one single point. About MLETR
The UNCITRAL Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records (“MLETR”) is a uniform model law that has been adopted by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL. Its scope is to allow the use of transferable documents and instruments in electronic form. These include bills of lading, warehouse receipts, bills of exchange, etc. National law qualifies a document or instrument as transferable
Transferable documents and instruments allow to request delivery of goods and payment of a sum of money based on possession of the document or instrument. However, it has been difficult to reproduce the notion of possession, which has to do with control over tangible goods, in an electronic environment. MLETR addresses that legal gap.
Under MLETR each dematerialised document does not need to be managed in a separate information system, but the same system could manage all documents related to a transactions. This allows to merge logistics and supply chain, in a single electronic transferable record
IBM As A Partner In The Programme
IBM are a partner in the TRADE GATEWAYS Programme. This is significant for reasons as below.
The business case for modernising the digital trade ecosystem is overwhelming. The digital platform will be an important support for the efficient and orderly operation of the digital economy and of digital trade. The TRADE GATEWAYS Programme is providing an infrastructure that helps with the modernisation of the digital trade ecosystem.

Helping with the Adoption of MLETR through Digital Trade Gateways
International Trade provides many challenges. The Adoption of MLETR can help address some of those challenges. The extensive TRADE GATEWAYS network of Digital Trade Gateways that help pave the way for MLETR, can help users address those challenges from a single point as detailed below.
The parties utilizing a TRADE GATEWAYS Digital Trade Gateway for a transaction, agree an equivalence between control of an electronic transferrable record and possession of a transferrable paper document or instrument. The reaching of such an agreement within a closed Trading Group, validates the use of electronic transferrable record, thereby helping to pave the way for MLETR.
The TRADE GATEWAYS Programme helps users to access Buyers or Sellers through an applicable B2B Marketplace.
After concluding a transaction, registered users would then use a Local Digital Trade Gateway in the TRADE GATEWAYS Programme, to access a local infrastructure to execute agreed Transactions, in a faster and more secure manner.
